Data Analyst II – Sunrise, FL
Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to provide expertise to organize, analyze and report on the data contained in the various data stores maintained by the Company.
This involves five primary roles:
1. Working with Business Analysts to understand the objective of the desired data analysis;
2. Achieving the desired analysis by the extraction of data from various data stores using SQL and other reporting tools as determined by the Company;
3. Presenting the analysis to end users, often using simple statistics;
4. Basic supervision of team members;
5. Representing the Company to its customers.
Essential Functions:
1. Understanding basic insurance business objectives inherent in reporting and analyzing insurance data;
2. Understanding database structures and relationships;
3. Designing, developing and deploying both one time and continuing production data analysis processes that include complex SQL queries, tables, reporting, Business Intelligence Tools and ETL functions;
4. Working closely with quality assurance processes as they relate to data analysis processes and code releases;
5. Maintaining existing data analysis processes as changes are made to data store designs;
6. Supporting Company staff in their triage of production issues;
7. Maintaining documentation on data analysis processes and associated activities;
8. Communicating with business stakeholders on:
A. The status of data analysis projects in process;
B. Any open production issues and their resolution;
9. Improving data analysis processes for the betterment of our customers;
10. Providing input to database architectural discussions with Database Architects and Database Administrators;
11. Participating in continuous process improvement projects in support and attainment of corporate and divisional goals and objectives;
12. Maintaining adequate skills including undertaking appropriate professional development;
13. Performing other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
The required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are:
1. In depth working knowledge of insurance business practices;
2. Strong proficiency in SQL queries and related tools such as SQL functions and creation of temporary tables;
3. Proficiency working with DB2 and the ability to work with SQL Server and Sybase;
4. Comfortable working with basic business statistical analysis such as percentages, averages, and standard deviation;
5. Proficiency working with reporting and Business Intelligence tools including the ability to understand and produce tabular reports, bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts. Experience with Cognos and InfoMaker a plus;
6. Working knowledge of ETL concepts and tools;
7. Experience working in a full Software Development Life Cycle environment including:
A. Working knowledge of SDLC concepts and goals;
B. Knowledge of a Unified Change Management environment;
C. Experience working with Project Managers, Quality Assurance Managers and Release Managers;
8. Good interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication;
