Halfway House Program

Our Halfway House Program is designed for health care and social services facilities offering voluntary outpatient and/or temporary stay services.  The Halfway House Program only covers facilities providing refuge for clients who enter voluntarily.  This program does not cover court-ordered placements.

Outpatient Services Covered

  • Aftercare and support programs (AA, Al-Anon, etc.)
  • Crisis, counseling or guidance centers (rape, domestic violence, etc.)
  • Non-medical drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers

Temporary Stay Services Covered

  • Crisis Centers (rape, domestic violence, displacements due to fire or other disasters)
  • Homeless shelters for families or adults
  • Mission or settlement houses (with beds)

General Liability Underwriting and Rating Considerations

  • Up to $1MM/$2MM limit (Umbrella available)
  • Rate based on square feet
  • Sexual/Physical Abuse coverage mandatory and included at $25,000/$50,000 for no charge (excluded under Umbrella). Higher limits up to $100,000/$300,000 available.
  • Errors and Omissions mandatory with limits up to General Liability rated separately per bed (inpatient) or per 1,000 visits (outpatient)
  • Any off-premises health care services provided under Home Health Care Program
  • Submit any physician-owned facilities

Prohibited

  • Birth control, pregnancy or abortion counseling or clinics
  • Blood testing
  • Children under 18 years old (unless guardian resides on premises)
  • Court-ordered placements
  • Detoxification facilities
  • Dialysis
  • Employed or contracted physicians on staff
  • Foster homes
  • Health care clinics
  • Hired and non-owned auto
  • Hospice facilities
  • In-patient facilities
  • Infusion therapy services
  • Methadone or other drugs administered as part of the treatment process
  • Physical therapy
  • Prisoners on work-release or rehabilitation
  • Psychiatric institutions
  • Youth hostels
